Matthias is Head of our Banking, Capital Markets and Payment Services Practice Group.
He advises banks, payment service providers, fintechs and other business entities with respect to payment, compliance and regulatory issues as well as license application processes under the German Banking Act and/or the German Payment Services Supervisory Act. His expertise includes structuring innovative finance and payment products, negotiating with regulatory authorities, drafting and negotiating complex banking and payment services agreements as well as licensing, acquiring and complex outsourcing agreements.
Further, he advises German and international corporations with respect to finance, capital increases and regulatory banking law. He prepared numerous and in particular critical general meetings of listed stock companies and advised on capital measures.
Before joining Osborne Clarke as a Partner in August 2001, Matthias was first a foreign associate with a US law firm in Atlanta, Georgia, and then an associate and later a junior partner at Graf von Westphalen Fritze & Modest. Matthias was a lecturer on securities law at the Rhinish University of Applied Sciences in Cologne and is the author of several articles and book contributions on capital markets and banking law and in particular co-publisher of a commentary to the German Payment Services Supervision Act.
